The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has commissioned Ricardo Energy & Environment and its partners Forest Research, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, Uniper Technologies Ltd, Phytoremedia AB and Beacon Tech Ltd to conduct a feasibility study on increasing sustainable bioenergy feedstocks through an innovation fund to be launched around Spring 2021. This will cover innovations in conventional and short rotation forestry, perennial energy crops (miscanthus and short rotation coppice) and crop residues.
Key innovation priorities have been identified, along with appropriate areas of focus, and the next step is to assess the interest and capacity of UK industry to deliver these innovations. If you are involved in these bioenergy feedstock supply chains, we would like to invite you to attend our bidder workshop to:
- Discuss our plans for the future innovation fund,
- Identify potential barriers to applications (allowing BEIS to consider any other complementary policies or activities in the run up to the launch of the fund), and
- Share our feedback on what BEIS look for in high quality applications for innovation competitions and explain how applications are assessed, to help you in any future application for funding.
