Head of Ecology

Richard is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology, an Environmental Management and Chartered Environmentalist. He has over 24 years’ professional experience in ecology, biodiversity and environmental management in both the public and private sector. Prior to joining Ricardo as the Head of Ecology, Richard managed and developed then ecology teams and services for Amey, Jacobs and WYG, and was also previously a Biodiversity Specialist for the Environment Agency. Richard has a wide breadth of expertise in ecology; applying this knowledge to design and coordinate surveys and lead the production of ecological impact assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) and mitigation strategies. He has held protected species licences for great crested newts, dormice, otters, water voles and badgers, and has co-authored published guidance on water voles and badgers. He has also previously been an ecology expert witness to several public inquires related to major infrastructure developments.
