Steven is an experienced waste treatment specialist who focuses on energy from waste (EfW) technology including combustion, gasification and pyrolysis. With strong engineering experience and over a decade spent in consultancy he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the technical, commercial and contractual aspects of residual waste infrastructure projects. As such he provides valuable support to developers and funders of such facilities, providing technical advice and support as well as rapidly identifying risks and opportunities for improvement and optimisation.
He is particularly interested in the decarbonisation of residual waste treatment. He has an excellent understanding of the application of carbon capture technology to various EfW technologies and has provided technical due diligence and design services to a number of projects seeking to convert residual waste to transport fuels and chemicals.
He has substantial experience of providing feasibility and viability appraisals, technical due diligence, conceptual design services, producing specifications and other technical documentation as well as acting as Owner’s Engineer during the construction and commissioning phases. His thermal treatment experience spans large conventional combustion facilities to novel and emerging advanced conversion technologies; he also has significant experience of non-thermal waste treatment technology including mechanical and biological treatment processes and the treatment of challenging waste streams such as hazardous clinical waste.
Through his career he has also worked on various projects outside the waste sector, including combined heat and power (CHP), district heating and a range of renewable energy technologies.
