Simon is an experienced environmental engineer, project manager and project director with over 22 years' waste management and environmental consultancy experience. He has managed projects in the UK and overseas and has a detailed knowledge of UK and EU environmental legislation and speaks Portuguese in addition to his native English. He works for both private and public sector clients and has a background across a broad range of technical and environmental disciplines.
His early career focused on geo-environmental consultancy and landfill and for the past 12 years he has worked in the construction, commissioning and testing of modern waste treatment facilities.
He has a strong background in landfill, AD, MRF and MBT technology with roles including expert witness (relating to both insurance claims and disputes associated with waste facility construction and operation), technical due diligence, independent certification, environmental permitting and advice to local authority clients on the procurement, commissioning and testing of waste facilities.
From 2009 to 2012 he spent three years on site working as Project Manager on an Independent Certification project for two large waste plants (Lancashire Waste PFI) employing a diverse range of technologies comprising MRF, MBT (including AD and composting) and green waste composting. He witnessed the construction, commissioning and undertaking of Acceptance Tests at those sites. This experience also gave Simon a practical working knowledge of bespoke waste contract documentation. Since then, Simon has advised insurers, and in dispute processes, for some of the UK's largest and most complex waste projects, as well as on smaller projects using standard forms of contract.
