Solution: Interactive web application
Envirowise was a Government-funded programme dedicated to putting the sustainable use of resources at the heart of UK business practice. It offered businesses free, independent and practical advice designed to improve their processes, profitability and competitiveness. Since its launch in 1994, Envirowise has helped UK businesses save well over £1bn by enabling them to significantly reduce their environmental impact.
WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) is funded by all four governments across the UK and the EU. It works with businesses, individuals and communities to achieve a circular economy through helping them reduce waste, develop sustainable products and use resources in an efficient way. It works with a wide range of partners, from major UK businesses, trade bodies and local authorities through to individuals looking for practical advice.
The Envirowise programme provided advice on business resource efficiency and had numerous in-depth publications, guides, case studies and tools. With all this online support, there was an increasing requirement to make these more accessible to businesses visiting the website. Resource efficiency information presented to users had to be concise, easily accessible and visually engaging. And as the tool regularly used by visitors to the website there was a need to update and expand the original content of Green Town.
The specifications of the project required us to provide a rich, engaging and interactive application which would present the information provided to us by the client in a clear and concise manner. Adobe Flash was used as it allowed the creation of a rich media environment without extensive browser compatibility testing.
