City GHG emission inventories, modelling and projections
Ricardo are world leaders in emission inventories, for both for air pollutants and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Since 2015 we have supported over 30 megacities to compile and report a city-wide GHG emissions inventory consistent with the Global Protocol for Community-Scale GHG Emission Inventories (GPC) and the requirements of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, providing direct assistance, capacity building workshops, technical support and review services. Currently, our team is providing in depth GHG mitigation support to 9 cities in sub-Saharan Africa, modelling future emission trajectories, setting reduction targets, and assessing the impacts of mitigation actions to develop robust and ambitious climate action plans that meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
We have not only supported cities directly but provided advice and expert services in the development of the international tools and standards we have then applied in the course of our projects. These include the training course for the City Climate Planner professional accreditation, the UNHABITAT Guiding Principles for City Climate Action Planning, the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency Non State and Subnational Action Guidance, and C40 technical guides including the CIRIS Handbook to support the GPC reporting tool, the inventory development workshop handbook and inventory management plan.
Our work in practice is underpinned by deep technical expertise, knowledge of the standards and requirements cities need to meet, and the challenges commonly faced in their implementation. We are internationally renowned for our experience and practical solutions, through:
We continue to learn and develop through the projects we undertake and the cities we work with, sharing best practice and solutions. We can support your city through the whole climate mitigation journey. Get in touch with our experts to find out more.
